Most searching begins with a question such as What am I looking for? This meditation begins somewhere else:
Who is finding?
Rather than looking for a conclusion, the meditation invites you to notice thoughts, sensations and the awareness in which they appear. The inquiry unfolds slowly, without asking you to adopt a belief or arrive at a particular answer.
The five questions
- Who is finding?
- What is to be found?
- Where is it found?
- When is it found?
- Why is there a need to find?
How to experience it
Find a quiet space and give yourself about 22 minutes without interruption. There is nothing to achieve and nothing to perform. Listen, notice, and allow each question to remain open for a while.
You may return to the recording more than once. The questions remain the same; what you notice may not.
Why I created it
The question behind this meditation has been present in my writing for years. Poems such as Who am I, I met myself and Purpose, and reflections such as Life is not thoughts, keep returning to the same territory: the relationship between thought, awareness, identity and the search for meaning.
Who Is Finding? turns that inquiry into an experience rather than another piece of writing to read.
Ready to sit with the question?
The meditation is available through Topmate and can be revisited whenever you want to return to the inquiry.
This meditation is offered for personal reflection and contemplative practice. It is not medical or mental-health treatment.
